3. Scope of the strategy

Habitat simulator for juveniles

The strategy is focused on two major components of the broad “aquatic biosecurity concept”, namely:

(1) aquatic animal health management; and

(2) deliberate aquatic species introductions and translocations.

Not included in the strategy are areas such as food safety (e.g., bio-toxin contamination) and biological risks associated with the use of living modified organisms. While these areas are also important to the development of the aquaculture sector in the Pacific, they are should be covered under separate strategies in order to narrow down the focus of the current strategy on achievable targets.
