In light of past export taro interceptions from both Australia and New Zealand, the project is actively working on promoting good pest management strategies and post-harvest practices. The publication materials aim to inform farmers and exporters alike on Australian and New Zealand export standards.
By clarifying export requirements, the project hopes that all taro stakeholders will be more informed and encouraged to play their part in developing a cleaner and more sustainable pathway.
This initiative falls under the project’s objective of disseminating research, and creating awareness among relevant stakeholders. The publication materials will be distributed to farmers, exporters and everyone involved in the taro supply chain. They will also be shared with Fiji’s Ministry of Agriculture for use in export awareness campaigns.
The project is funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and is being implemented in Samoa and Fiji through a collaborative partnership between the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries in Samoa and the Ministry of Agriculture in Fiji.
