Household Effects

STEP PROCEDURE FOR THE INSPECTION OF HOUSEHOLD EFFECTS
1 Arrange with the importer or agent to be present at the inspection of the consignment. This will prevent the importer claiming that goods were stolen when the consignment was opened for inspection.
2 Obtain and read the consignment packing list to determine which items need to be inspected.
3 Arrange with the importer or agent to open boxes to inspect the contents and, after inspection, repack the goods. This will prevent the importer making claims on the biosecurity service for breakage, which might occur if the biosecurity officer opened and repacked boxes.
4 Clear the consignment using the procedures given in Section 1.1.1.2. A: Ship Inspection of cargo. Collect specimens for identification.
