Ships crew, cabin, food, garbage, and trash inspection

STEPS PROCEDURES FOR INSPECTION OF A SHIP’S CREW, CABIN, FOOD, GARBAGE AND TRASH
1 – 5 Refer to Basic Requirements
6 Inspect the Customs Crew Search List for regulated goods. Inspect the ship’s stores, galley, refrigerators, freezers and crew’s cabins for these goods and determine what action is required.

Prohibited goods – must be secured and must remain on board

Regulated goods – refer to specific commodity for measures

Non-regulated goods – no action required

7 If any of the areas are infested with pests, determine the action required.

Plants with pests – destroy

Fruit and vegetables with pests – destroy

Infested stores (grain, etc.) – place the infested grain in a plastic bag and spray the grain store.

Collect specimens for identification.

8 Inspect garbage drums and ensure that they are on deck or in an enclosed space, tightly covered and leak-proof.
9 Look for live animals and secure them. Arrange for daily examination of animals.
10 Inspect for dunnage and ensure it remains on board.
11 Inspect rat guards.
12 Complete documentation.
