SPECIFIC PROCEDURES – SEAPORT GARBAGE
Most quarantine garbage at the seaport comes from visiting warships and itinerant vessels such as newly arrived yachts. Little, if any, garbage is deposited by shipping vessels that are regular callers. These vessels have facilities for onboard destruction, or storage for garbage which is subsequently dumped at sea.
During warship and yacht clearance operations, masters/captains are to be advised of the arrangements for disposing of garbage in the port.
| STEPS | PROCEDURE FOR THE DISPOSAL OF SHIPPING GARBAGE |
| 1 | On completion of yacht inspections, collect (regulated articles) quarantinable garbage in a plastic bag and remove it from the vessel for destruction. Advise the master where to deposit garbage on the dock. |
| 2 | If quarantinable food is permitted to remain on board, advise the master of any local arrangements for the collection of food waste. Food on board is considered as in transit |
| 3 | Arrange for ALL garbage from warships in port to be delivered to the designated area on the dock for destruction. Garbage is to be delivered in sealed plastic bags. |
